Pava Partners advised mi2-factory GmbH (“mi2-factory”) on a financing round with Ion Beam Applications S.A. (“IBA”) and Wallonie Entreprendre International (“WE International”). Stiftung Thüringer Beteiligungskapital, managed by bm-t beteiligungsmanagement thüringen gmbh, and another existing investor co-invest in this current round.
mi2-factory, based in Jena (Thuringia), has developed a patent protected technology, the energy filter for ion implantation, EFIITRON. This breakthrough innovation can reduce the cost of manufacturing power electronics by more than 30%.
This financing round enables mi2-factory to develop an industrial-scale demonstrator and show-case the technology and its use in existing fabs to future customers. In addition, the investor IBA is contributing its leading expertise in the field of compact industrial particle accelerator technology.
mi2-factory develops and supplies an innovative tool for manufacturing efficient power semiconductor microchips. EFIITRON has been specially developed for doping new microchips made of silicon carbide (SiC), a material that represents a significant technological advancement for wind power, photovoltaics, and electromobility. The technology enables new designs, reduces costs and increases the performance and yield of microchips.
The investor IBA designs, produces and markets innovative particle accelerator solutions for the diagnosis and treatment of cancer and other serious illnesses, and for industrial applications such as the sterilization of medical devices.
The second investor WE International is the international branch of the Walloon public investment company and aims to invest in high-value-added projects that foster Walloon expertise in cutting-edge sectors like semiconductors in power electronics.
“We thank Pava Partners for the cooperation in this intensive process. We always felt that the team was ideally qualified to bridge the gap between our highly technical topics and the (information) requirements of our new investors. Together, we have professionally mastered all challenges,” states Benjamin Tom, Managing Director of mi2-factory. “We are grateful to have had their expertise throughout this process.”

About mi2-factory
mi2-factory GmbH (“mi2-factory”) offers a novel process technology for semiconductor production with its innovative EFIITRON wafer processing equipment. Chip manufacturers use EFIITRON to reduce chip costs, to increase reliability and to realize new component architectures, for applications in electromobility, photovoltaics, wind power and for traction applications as well as industrial drives.
The energy-filter is an application- and customer-specific production tool that is used in an EFIITRON production plant. The customer benefits from previously unattainable precision and flexibility. This enables them to achieve a cost reduction of 30% to over 50% per chip for silicon carbide (SiC) chips.
EFIITRON is targeting the strategic market of silicon carbide power electronics for e-mobility, renewable energy applications, traction and industrial drives. Well-known studies expect a market volume in 2027 of > $6 billion with a CAGR of 30-40%. mi2-factory is designed to process 30% of all SiC wafers with EFIITRON equipment in the long term (>5 years).
